Private Pilates, Explained

Is Momentum truly private?

Yes.

Momentum is designed around one-on-one reformer Pilates. Your instructor’s attention is dedicated to you throughout your appointment, allowing the experience to be shaped around your movement, goals, and pace.

During your appointment, the studio is reserved specifically for you.

I’ve never done Pilates before. Where should I start?

Begin with a Private Appointment.

Your first 60-minute appointment gives you time to meet your instructor, become familiar with the reformer, discuss your goals, and begin moving at a pace appropriate for you.

No previous Pilates experience is required.

Do I need to be flexible to start Pilates?

Not at all.

Pilates begins with how you move today. Your instructor works within your current range of motion and adjusts exercises, resistance, and positioning as appropriate.

Flexibility may develop as part of your practice, but it is not a prerequisite.

What happens during my first appointment?

We begin with conversation.

Your instructor will ask about your goals, previous movement experience, and anything you would like them to understand before you begin.

From there, you’ll be introduced to the reformer and guided through foundational movement while your instructor observes how you move.

There is no predetermined first workout. Your appointment develops around you.

How long is a private appointment?

Every private Momentum appointment is 60 minutes. That time is dedicated entirely to your one-on-one practice.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows you to move freely. Avoid clothing with exposed zippers or hardware that may come into contact with the equipment. Grip socks are recommended. No special shoes are needed.

Every private Momentum appointment is 60 minutes. That time is dedicated entirely to your one-on-one practice.

How is private Pilates different from a group reformer class?

A group class follows a shared format while one instructor divides attention across several people.

At Momentum, the appointment is built around one person.

Your instructor can adjust spring resistance, range of motion, sequencing, pace, and cues in real time based on how you are moving that day.

There is no room to keep up with. There is only your practice.

How often should I practice Pilates?

That depends on your goals, schedule, and overall movement routine.

Many Momentum clients choose a consistent weekly appointment so their instructor can build thoughtfully from one session to the next.

For clients who want that continuity, Momentum Membership includes four private appointments each month.

Can my appointment be adapted for physical limitations or previous injuries?

Many Pilates exercises can be adjusted based on comfort, ability, and movement needs.

Please tell your instructor about relevant injuries, surgeries, or physical limitations before participating.

If you have a medical condition, are recovering from an injury or surgery, or are unsure whether Pilates is appropriate for you, consult your healthcare professional before beginning a new exercise program.

What is Momentum Open Studio?

Momentum Open Studio is independent reformer practice available exclusively to eligible Momentum members.

Once approved by their instructor, members may reserve designated studio time to practice familiar exercises independently between instructor-led appointments.

Open Studio is not a group class or public equipment rental.

Do I need to be a member to use Open Studio?

Yes. Open Studio is a Momentum member privilege and requires instructor approval before independent practice.

Reservations are purchased separately and are subject to studio availability.

How does Momentum Membership work?

Momentum Membership is designed for clients who want a consistent private Pilates practice.

Members receive four 60-minute private appointments each month, priority scheduling, ongoing individualized progression, and eligibility for Momentum Open Studio.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments may be canceled or rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance.

Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice and no-shows are charged in full or deducted from the applicable series or membership.

Late arrivals do not extend the scheduled appointment.

Do you take FSA/HSA for reformer Pilates?

You may be eligible to use HSA or FSA funds for Pilates when the expense qualifies as medical care and appropriate documentation is obtained.

Momentum currently works with Crates Health to help eligible clients obtain a Letter of Medical Necessity and submit documentation for reimbursement.

Momentum does not accept HSA/FSA cards directly. Eligibility and reimbursement are determined by your plan and applicable requirements.
